Making images is a very natural and satisfying way for me to process thought. Writing about my images is extremely challenging. In an effort not to impose an interpretation, my writing focuses on situations and intentions that influenced the work. The writing does not intend to explain or declare, but like the art itself, provides opportunities for further inquiry. Several factors motivate me to write about my work. First, a personal desire to examine where I have been so I can see the path ahead. Writing reveal insights to benefit my continued growth. Second, I desire to provide others with the opportunity to interpret my visual work. Context often helps a person access and appreciate their role as the generator of meaning. Third, I am interested in the communication of meaning. Writing about my work broadens my understanding of how language operates. The site's written material comes from a book I am currently authoring Kent Manske: Art Projects 2010 - 1980. The book will be published by Hunger Button Books in January 2011. |
